Who’s Polling For GOP VP?

Posted by vicepresidents

rubioThe National Journal indicated that 65 percent of Democrats polled and 60 percent of Republicans polled favor Marco Rubio for the GOP nominee vice presidential pick. After that, no one else really comes close, but the poll found 10 percent Democrats and 5 percent of Republicans supported the idea of Herman Cain for VEEP; 5 percent of Democrats and Republicans thought House Majority Leader Eric Cantor would be a good pick; and 3 percent of Democrats and 9 percent of Republicans warmed up to the idea of Rep. Paul Ryan.

Other names that came up in a handful of Democrat votes included:

  • Governor Chris Christie
  • Senator Rob Portman
  • Governor Mitch Daniels
  • Governor Bob McDonnell
  • Governor Rick Perry
  • Former Mayor Rudy Guiliani
  • Former Governor Mike Huckabee
  • Ambassador Jon Huntsman
  • Governor John Kasich

Names that Republicans floated included:

  • Senator Rob Portman
  • Governor Bob McDonnell
  • Former Governor Jeb Bush
  • Governor Mitch Daniels
  • Governor Susana Martinez
  • Governor Haley Barbour
  • Governor Chris Christie
  • Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
  • Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani
  • Former Governor Tim Pawlenty

What Makes Marco Rubio Such An Insider Favorite?

Rubio has a lot going for him, as we mentioned before. In a nutshell: he’s got Latino support, youth vote popularity, Conservative support, and he carries the massive swing state of Florida. Despite all this, many people believe he’ll be running for president soon enough (after all, he’s only 40) and he’s said repeatedly that he would have to decline the offer should someone ask him.
