ABC News reports that Rob Portman has had SIX HOURS of meetings with Mitt Romney’s campaign advisors, including Chief VEEP Vetter Beth Myers, this week in Boston.
“You know, I talk to those guys all the time on how things are going in Ohio and what the message ought to be back home in Ohio, so… it was a good-good day,” Portman explained.
He quickly added that three of the six meetings were “fundraisers on behalf of Romney” (some of them worth $1,000-a-plate) and that they weren’t focused on the vetting process. Yet, at this stage of the game, vetting running mates is always in the back of the Romney Camp’s mind — if not the top of their agenda.
The vetting process is very furtive indeed. Yet, one can’t deny Portman has been very near the campaign trail lately. He held two events in Concord, New Hampshire — that happened to be just 45 minutes down the road from the lakeshore compound where Romney and family were vacationing for the week.
