"It may be the most important decision they make - or at least one of the most important of their presidency - and it's the one thing that they basically control," Mondale said of the vice president selection process. "But it is risky because if you make a mistake, a serious mistake, it's like a bad marriage. Only you can't get a divorce."
His recommendation? “It’d be helpful if they looked for people that had backgrounds in International Relations and National Security issues," he said. "I think he is very strong in those issues, but Americans are anxious and concerned as they should be about the dangerous world and they want to be sure their President is ready for that.”
