According to a recent online survey, visitors and residents of Philadelphia voted it home to the least attractive people in the United States. Approximately 60,000 people responded to the online poll at www.travelandleisure.com. In addition to being the ugliest, Philly has the dubious distinction of also being among the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly. In the homely category, the city of more than 1.5 million people, beat out Washington D.C. and Dallas/Fort Worth for the top spot - or is it bottom spot?
Apparently, Miami and San Diego boast the most beautiful, the survey determined. Amy Farley, senior editor at the web site, tried to ease the pain somewhat by explaining that, "We were only asking people to vote on attractiveness not unattractiveness. Travel & Leisure editors believe there are a lot of attractive people in Philadelphia." I'm sure that's not much consolation for Philadelphians who are probably too busy crying all over their cheese-steaks to note the clarification. By the way, the American Obesity Association has also taken aim at the city, ranking it in the top 10 for overweight people every year between 2000 and 2005.
