Who Is Most Cheney-Like?

Sure, everyone's looking for the next Prez, so we have sights on who's making the play to become the next VEEP, the ultimate #2! At vicepresidents.com it is about people in the shadow-the second string, the runners up... Latest Updates: Who Is Most Cheney-Like? Bob Kerrey for VP. Obama OK With 2nd Place? Deval Patrick or Newt Gingrich For VP? Edwards & Musharraf BFFs.

12/27: Who Is Most Cheney-Like?
I don't know about you, but as the primaries loom less than a week away, I've got my eyes peeled for every Cheney-like quality I can find in the 2008 candidates. It's sort of like if you were called down to the police station to point out the man who stole your purse, kicked your dog and peed on your car: the last thing you'd want to do is pick the wrong guy. You have to be careful about these things. I once met a man who named his daughter "Cheney"... boy does he feel stupid now! So before you go naming your children "Giuliani" or "Huckabee," be sure you've made the sensible choice! Take a good hard look at the current VEEP... and ask yourself, "Should the VEEP be someone who embodies all that is Good... or someone with unquestionable loyalty, pursed lips and a knack for telling people to drop dead, when it's uncouth for the president to do so?"

In recent news, Huckabee is "Cheney-like" in his hazardous hunting style...

And Giuliani is "Cheney-like" in his secrecy.

In case you were wondering, McCain is most "Cheney-like" in his absenteeism.

And Romney? He's most "Cheney-like" in his adamant defense of Guatanamo, wielding immense power and "the ends justify the means" rationale.

12/27 Has Hillary found her #2?
Speculations about possible Hillary #2's are plentiful these days. Jim Webb, Wesley Clark, or Bob Kerrey... which decorated veteran will Hillary favor, or will she snub them all? This article makes a particularly good case for Bob Kerrey. Why? He won the Medal of Honor and lost a leg in Vietnam, making him especially resilient against a McCain. He served as both popular Governor (1983 - 1987) and Senator (1989 - 2001) of Nebraska, which would give him the necessary leverage in the neighboring state of Iowa. He does, however, find it "funny" that Obama's middle name is Hussein and that his father was a Muslim, revealing a slightly abrasive personality... in other words, perfect for VP!

12/27 Obama Doesn't Mind Being #2!
In Mason City, Iowa, Barack Obama told 400 high school students that he doesn't mind "being their second choice." Why does the man running for President of the United States suddenly quake before kids who are barely old enough to vote?

At this point, declaring a #2 could be a real power play for candidates in a tight race. Just as Edwards helped Kerry in his 04 race and Bill is helping Hillary in her current race, so could a Wesley Clark or a Bob Kerrey. This Yahoo Op-Ed piece is really an article after our own hearts here at VicePresidents.com!

12/27 Will Kucinich Run As An Independent?
In a nationwide poll of over 80,000 registered Independent voters, 77% favored forgotten Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich!

In case any of you were concerned... don't be... "angry grandpa" Mike Gravel is planning to run as an Independent when he "loses the end of his string" in February.

12/27 A Newt For VEEP
Newt Gingrich told George Stephanopoulos that he'd feel compelled to serve as VP if certain people asked him. In the past, Gingrich has sung high praises for Fred Thompson, but since the tide has turned in Huckabee's favor, he's been patting ol' Mike on the back considerably too. Some speculate he hasn't officially endorsed any of the candidates yet because he has secret ambitions of making his own Independent run for the White House, although it's more likely Newt wants to maintain his influence on Capitol Hill so he just coyly tells Hannity and Colmes that he'll "vote for one of [his] friends."

12/27 Edwards & Musharraf: BFFs?
So, apparently Musharraf called John Edwards back today. I'm not sure if that's really a bonus though... It's kind of like bragging that Britney Spears or George Bush called you. "This foreign leader with an 8% approval rating called me today." BRAVO.

(Even more second-string is the idea that CBS News can't even spell the word "instead" properly. C'mon, Guys!)

12/27 Possible VP For Obama?
Who better to back Obama than another young, charismatic black congressman, Deval Patrick? As the first elected African American governor, Deval presides over Massachusetts but was born in Obama's home base of Chicago. He, too, was a lawyer and fought for individual rights in the Clinton administration as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. Obama comments that they "Have a lot in common" and is planning to have Deval Patrick stump for him in Iowa, New Hampshire AND South Carolina, which seems like a big favor to ask -- or a test to see how much additional favor Patrick can drum up.

12/24 Dodd Conflicted On Vice Presidency!
The Vice Presidency is a pickle for anyone running for Commander-in-Chief at this point. Saying you'd definitely take the slot is like conceding defeat... yet refusing the position may cause your cohorts to cross you off their list for potentials. Second Place isn't so bad, but why settle for less when you can have it all? Many delusions are still flourishing prior to the primaries, so some candidates are still undecided. For instance, Chris Dodd told Wolf Blitzer he'd rather be senator of Connecticut because "Dick Cheney ruined the job." A few months later, he told CNN "Well you never say no to those things" and called the Vice Presidency "an easy acceptance." Maybe Dodd isn't such a spoil sport after all! C'mon, Chris, give the VP a shot. You've got the integrity to restore American faith in the position.

12/24 Vice Presidential Debate Scheduled For October 2, 2008!
This just in: Washington University in St. Louis plans to host the only 2008 Vice Presidential Debate on Thursday October 2, 2008 at 8pm. Mark your calendars!

12/24 Walter Mondale Moving Back Into Position?
Walter Mondale has been campaigning extensively for Hillary Clinton in Iowa. Walter Mondale, former VP under Jimmy Carter, tells a crowd at Oaknoll Retirement Community, "We have this war that we have to end. It's one of the greatest self-inflicted mistakes in American history." He speaks of leadership and the necessary influence to beat the Republicans.

In 2004 Mondale positioned himself as co-chairman of the bipartisan Right to Counsel Committee, which aims to help the poor afford legal counsel and protect their constitutional rights. He's also been appointed Honorary Consul-General of Norway in Minnesota, showing that he's been taking a more active role in diplomacy and foreign policy these days.

12/24 Sarah Palin For VP?

Bloggers are scouring the internet for candidates who'd never hack it as President but have a decent shot at the #2 slot -- for instance, Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin.

On this blogger's site, the ideal ticket would be a Giuliani Presidency, backed by the fresh face of a woman VP. Sarah obtained a degree in journalism before serving as a two-term mayor of Wasilla and as President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. She's especially noted for immediately following her pledge to sell the Westwind II jet that had been purchased by taxpayer money by the previous administration. She cut the enormous construction budget in half and put energy as one of her top priorities. An August poll gave her governorship an 85% approval rating -- heralded as the highest in the nation. The question is: How would Judith feel about a woman VP?

12/24 Giuliani Looking At McCain
“John is a friend now, he’s going to remain a friend then. I think John is a really fine man. He’s a hero of mine. I have great respect for him. I know he has great respect for me,” Rudy Giuliani said of Senator McCain this week. He added that he'd like to have McCain as an "adviser." Could McCain be on his VP nomination? Here at VicePresidents.com, we're generally suspicious of candidates patting each other on the back at this stage of the game.

12/24 Charlie Crist for VP?
From the depths of Tallahassee, Florida comes a man so qualified it's shocking that he's not running his own vice president campaign already! Governor Charlie Crist once served as Vice President of the student body at Florida State University where he studied Law. Under Jeb Bush, he became Deputy Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in 1999 and Education Commissioner of Florida in 2000. He's cracked down on fraud cases, while upholding civil rights, and he's garnered support from celebrities like John Walsh of America's Most Wanted. Crist then served as State Attorney General from 2003 and 2007, before taking residency as governor. Sure, he's had his fair share of ethics and fundraising red flags, but wouldn't that make him the perfect match for Giuliani? One blogger speculated that marriage would be the tell-tale sign of Crist's campaign for the Vice Presidency.

12/24 Will Tancredo Resurface?
In no time at all, Tancredo endorsed Mitt Romney before saying "Goodbye, cruel world," ending his long Draconian bid for the White House. Some people were surprised by this sudden endorsement just days after Tancredo accused Romney of "trying to out-Tancredo Tancredo." This man sure makes a great Adjective... but how about a Vice President? He definitely feels adamant about tackling the immigration issues and he explains that Mitt is the strongest on the subject, behind him. However, Romney has shown no recognition of the endorsement that we know of... and he maintains his very Frankenstein-like facade regarding his VP secrets.

12/21 Giuliani's Jet Breaks Down... And So Does He!

Rudy Giuliani had a tough day: his jet broke down, he had to drive from Kansas City, MO to Columbia to Chesterfield, and he ended up in the hospital with flulike symptoms. (Well that's one way to get some R&R!)

12/21 Mitt Romney: Huckabee Would Make A Great VP!

In a brilliant strategic move, Romney comes out in support of Huckabee for VP, which gives waffling voters the idea that if they choose Romney, they can have it all! Of course, he did it in his arrogant way, which suggests "Everyone who knows me knows I'm just joking, so don't hold me accountable."

12/21 John Edwards: Don't Expect To See Obama As My VP!

This isn't exactly "late breaking" news... but I stumbled across a relevant video on youtube where someone asked John Edwards if he'd consider Barack Obama as his VP. Edwards is flattered that the woman thinks he's going to be the next president and he confides that he has a "secret list" of VP hopefuls, but he doesn't seem too keen on the idea of running with the man who borrowed all his 2004 speech advisers.

12/21 Will Bill Hurt Hill?

Old friends have convened to discuss Bill's recent statements, attacking Senator Obama as the race for 2008 tightens. Bill's been noted for saying that voting for Obama is like "rolling the dice," or deducing Obama down to nothing more than "a symbol." Ex-colleague Reed Hundt, ex-assistant secretary of State Susan Rice and ex-campaign adviser Mitchell Schwartz are among the critics. Although, it should also be noted that Rice and Schwartz once helped Bill secure a presidential victory... but have now hopped onto the Obama campaign to try their luck a second time.

Wow, I hope Sarah Palin really looks like a politician. Usually..women don't really have their place in politics - in men's opinion, but I think she has done great work so far.. too bad she won't be getting to quick in the president's seat.
