 VEEP BIO

Although most vice presidents have had some impact in policies that still affect us today, that they truly affected the creation and outcome of this country forever can be said only of a few. John Adams is one of the few that helped shape the United States of America into its present state.Born on October 22, 1735 in Braintree, Massachussetts, John Adams studied law at Harvard University and worked as a teacher after graduating. In 1764 he married Abigail Smith and fathered six children, one of which was a future president in the making – John Quincy Adams.A very conscientious man and successful constitutional lawyer, he often wrote influential essays addressing the issues that were affecting the british ruled colonies. He joined the continental congress in 1774 and sought freedom from the British by drafting the decleration of independence in 1776 along with Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Jay and Henry Lawrence. That same year, he nominated George Washington to serve as commander-in-chief of the army.

While Vice President, his role was rather minimal as President George Washington rarely consulted him. He did however play a role in deciding where our nation’s capital would be prior to becoming president himself in 1796.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were friends and political rivals.  They both died on the same day, July 4, 1826.For more on John Adams, visit Wikipedia.org
